The second generation of the Norwegian cultural heritage database will be launched in January, 2012. The paper focuses onThe new opportunities for professional cultural heritage and researchersThe completely new opportunities for the public to access, interact with and use the dataThe possibilities inherent in database GIS, web and social media technology as utilized in the new version of the database will be presented. Questions of representativity, data quality, how to visualize uncertainty for all kinds of users as well as explaining the limits of information content will be explored.
